I'm getting following error when I change the order status in oscommerce admin.

2006 - MySQL server has gone away

insert into orders_status_history (orders_id, orders_status_id, date_added, customer_notified, comments) values ('4956', '3', now(), '1', 'Kindly ignore')

I'm hosting my site on Bluehost.

I've done search on Google but can't figure out what is wrong.
Also it is not clear if it is mySQL problem or oscommerce.

Can any one help?

There seem to be no clear answer to this question. Internet search doesn't help either.

I also faced same problem in the past. Which was solved by changing the commerce script.

For me this problem happened as my host had upgraded the mySQL server.

The best way to find out would be setup your oscommerce shop in another host and see if it works there (probably with an earlier version of mySQL)

Try this

Set max_allowed_packet higher in php.ini file on your server in [mysqld] section:
max_allowed_packet=10M

Keep increasing 10M if possible.

Also check what is this value on your host provider?

I've setup in my local server and it works perfectly well. I didn't change any setting in php.ini file.

Bluehost sucks, I need to change my hosting company.

Their tech support is crap, never got reply for this problem.

Could it be problem with the CRE Loaded shop script?
