RAM.

Postby ritukhanna on Thu Dec 20, 2007 2:01 pm

Hi all,

I upgraded my Laptop Memory from 2GB to 4GB recently. But the Operating System is showing only 3GB RAM. When I called the supplier and enguired about this they say that the computer is using the full 4GB RAM and Operating System shows only 3GB RAM and this is because of the restrictions in the Operating System. But I'm confused by this. Is they are correct and is anyone experience like this issue before? I'm using Sony Notebook with Vista Home premium O.S.

RAM

Hi,

Yes, what they had said is correct.

A 32-bit operating system, such as the Microsoft Windows Vista or the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, can only generate 4GB of memory addresses. Since some of these memory addresses are used by certain hardware components, there are not enough memory addresses left to map 4GB of system memory. This issue can cause the operating system to report the amount of system memory as approximately 3GB.
Also the system will use the full 4GB RAM.

Contact the Notebook manufacturer and they'll guide you where you can view the full RAM capacity.
Bye.
